panic in portland

I just saw an article about WebTrends CEO Greg Drew being ousted together with VP Product Development Jason Palmer, and two other executives. It’s really too bad. I guess last week news of Omniture acquiring Visual Sciences was too much for Francisco Partners, WebTrends’ owners. Well, OK, Omniture has shown some vision with their recent acquisitions of Touch Clarity, Offermatica and VS.

I wonder if firing the CEO and especially the PD executives will send the right message to customer and prospects, particularly two weeks after the official launch of very interesting products such as Visitor Intelligence and Score. Those guys were onto something; that is where the Web Analytics market is going, I can guarantee you (I for one am preparing for it).

Maybe Francisco Partners didn’t believe that rejuvenate product portfolio would bring the market share fast enough.

I wish all the luck to Greg, Jason, Tore, and Hamid.
